Trumpet player Thomas Marriott, one of SRJO’s featured soloists, is launching a new weekly gig this Friday night, March 5, at Pioneer Square’s hot jazz haunt, the New Orleans Creole Restaurant. His band will include, among others, SRJO bassist Phil Sparks (seen here in the foreground).

With his most recent release, Flexicon, Thomas continues to establish his signature sound and national reputation. We’re fortunate to be able to hear live in Seattle on a regular basis.

In a special to the Seattle Times, jazz writer Hugo Kuglya takes a look at how Thomas charts a successful path in Seattle.

Learn more about Thomas on his website, and check out recording featuring him, as both a leader and a side-man, at Origin Records.

UPDATE: while you can see Thomas around town on a regular basis, we’ve learned that Friday night’s show is not a weekly gig. His next scheduled appearance at New Orleans Creole Restaurant (see their calendar here) is Sunday, May 30. You can follow his calendar here.
